Kent graduated with honors from the University of Kentucky in 1978 with a BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering and from Morehead University in 1997 with an MBA degree with emphasis on Finance & Marketing. Kent also trained in both finance and advanced executive management at the Fisher School of Business at Ohio State University, 1997/98. Mr. Flanery has over 30 years of experience in the U.S. Energy Industry and is past chairman of the Gas/Electric Partnership based in Houston, Texas. He was on the multinational team who patented the IEMDC gas compression technology.
A published author and speaker on energy related topics, he is founder and Managing Partner of Western Appalachian Resources Company, LLC, a technical and business consulting firm. Formerly employed by Columbia Energy and American Electric Power, he served in various technical, management, and national business development capacities and engaged in national and international engineering and project management services. Mr. Flanery has experience in providing technical and energy services to a wide variety of clients as well as experience in power plant project development, operations and maintenance. Kent recently supported development of new breakthrough technology developments in coal gasification under a US DOE grant. He is experienced in both the technical side and the business development side of the US energy industry. Kent received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky, his MBA from Morehead University, and completed the Executive Management Program from the Ohio State University Fischer School of Business. He also is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Kentucky.
